Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 2026

Drift is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data is sent, why it is used, and the choices available to you.

1. Text Processing

AI processing is off until you give permission in the Drift app. When you tap the Drift button, the message visible to Drift, together with your selected source language, target language, and tone, is sent to Anthropic, a third-party AI provider, to create the requested rewrite or translation. Drift does not store message text on its servers after returning the response. Anthropic processes requests under its applicable commercial privacy and data practices: anthropic.com/privacy.

2. Device Identifier

Drift generates a random device identifier that is stored on your device and sent with rewrite requests. It is used to enforce the daily free-use limit and, if you separately enable analytics, to associate product events across sessions. The identifier does not contain your name, email address, phone number, or advertising identifier. The local copy is removed when you delete the app.

3. Usage Counts

We process the number of rewrites associated with the random device identifier to manage the free tier (50 rewrites per day). The allowance resets daily.

4. Optional Product Analytics

Product analytics are off until you choose to enable them. If enabled, Drift sends feature usage and performance events to PostHog, such as whether setup was completed, selected language and tone, response time, character count, and whether a suggestion was accepted. Drift does not include message text or individual keystrokes in analytics events. PostHog's privacy information is available at posthog.com/privacy.

5. Full Access Permission

Drift requires "Allow Full Access" to function in iMessage, WhatsApp, email, and other apps. This permission lets the keyboard send the text you choose to process to the rewriting and translation service. We do not record keystrokes, read other apps' content, or retain any text after the response is returned.

You can revoke Full Access at any time: Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards -> Drift -> Allow Full Access.

6. Your Choices and Deletion

You can turn AI Processing or Product Analytics on or off at any time in Drift's Settings screen. Turning off AI Processing prevents new message text from being sent to Anthropic. Turning off Analytics prevents new analytics events from being sent to PostHog. You may also delete the app to remove Drift's locally stored identifier and preferences, or contact us to request deletion of server-side data associated with your random identifier.

7. Data We Do Not Request

Drift does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, photos, health data, or advertising identifier. Please avoid submitting sensitive personal information in text you choose to process.

8. Third-Party Protection

Drift requires service providers that process data on its behalf to protect that data consistently with their contractual obligations and applicable law. Drift uses third-party data only to provide and improve the app, as described in this policy.

9. Children's Privacy

Drift is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date.
